So the lead up to the big adventure has been quite a ride. We’ve been hassling back and forth with the airline over Jessica’s wheelchair and her hoyer lift. We were told both were too large to go on the airplane. If this is access–guess what…it sucks. But–two days out–we found out that the chair back will fold and we are considering the lift “necessary medical equipment”. Since we’ll have the cameras out at check-in we hope it just slides on board. I also found out that few hotels offer double handicap accessible rooms–so if you have a caregiver you’d be stuck buying two rooms. After much searching found that the Hilton Garden Inn offers a handi-suite with a pull out sofa bed and two bathrooms.
Hassles aside–travel for the mobility challenged CAN be done–especially with the support of friends.
